A minor explores a theme in more detail. This allows you to focus on and gain new knowledge about a new discipline or explore a particular professional field. Also, some minors give access to particular Master's degrees. See the list of all minors.
Tip! You should also consider a second or third choice in case the minor has strict entry requirements or a limited number of places. This will increase your chances of being admitted.
For each minor, you will find information on the entry requirements, the number of places, which documents you need to submit and a link to the Course Catalogue for more information on the courses.
The application period for most UvA-minors is from 1 April to 13 May 2025.
Note: a different application period and procedure applies to the Education minor and some minors of the Faculty of Science. For the minors of the Institute of Interdisciplinary Sciences (IIS), the minor Artificial Intelligence and the minor Programmeren of the Faculty of Science you should follow this step-by-step plan.
Not every minor can be included on your degree certificate. For example, overlap between the minor of your choice and your own Bachelor's degree is usually not allowed. Find your Bachelor’s degree in the approval matrix to see which minors you are allowed to include on your degree certificate, which you are not and for which minors you need to submit a request to your Examinations Board.
Check the minor page to see which degree programme you need to register for and register as an elective student.
The application period is now closed. It is no longer possible to apply for minors starting in the first semester of the 2025–2026 academic year. Still interested in taking certain minor courses in the first semester? For some minor courses, separate enrolment is possible during the course registration period.
