    Hugo Huurdeman is a human-computer interaction researcher who investigates how interactive systems can support people through extended processes of exploration, analysis and learning. His PhD (University of Amsterdam, 2018) established a framework for designing search systems around the stages of the information-seeking process rather than isolated queries, with full papers at CHIIR, IIiX and in the International Journal on Digital Libraries. He has since deliberately tested this framework in progressively richer environments: e.g. visual discovery interfaces for library collections, interactive 3D research environments for historical scholarship, and serious games and VR for skill acquisition. Across these projects he has combined design, implementation and empirical evaluation, releasing open software and datasets alongside publications.

    Hugo currently works as a research engineer at the CREATE Humanities Lab at the University of Amsterdam.
