I am a PhD candidate at the Amsterdam Center for Language and Communication. My background is in computational linguistics (NLP), and I am interested in language learning, education and queer linguistics. I especially value research with high societal relevance.

Within my PhD, I am looking into the development of academic literacy in multilingual settings, and how its supported by program curricula. Firstly, I am designing automated metrics of text quality for both Dutch and English, and applying them to longitudinal data to see how academic language skills develop overtime. I am specifically looking into undergraduate students at Universiteit van Amsterdam, taking into account their diverse linguistic backgrounds. Secondly, I am exploring the relationship between students' actual linguistic development and the language support offered by their programs.

My PhD project is a part of REACH: Research on Educational Success, Academic Language, and Curricula in Higher Education. It is an NKO-funded project conducted at Universiteit van Amsterdam and Hogeschool Rotterdam. Our research focuses on language in higher education, specifically language-supportive curricula, the development of academic literacy, and factors facilitating academic achievement. Our goal is to contribute to evidence-informed language policy that can increase students' chances of academic achievement. For updates on the REACH project, you can follow our LinkedIn page.
