  • Profile

Political scientist with over a decade of experience in public policy as both an academic and a practitioner, with a strong background in data science. Has over five years of postdoctoral experience at the Federal University of São Carlos (Brazil), Aston University (UK), and Newcastle University (UK). Is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Research focuses on the role of political actors in policymaking, particularly interest organisations and public bureaucrats. Recent projects examine the politicisation of public bureaucracy in Latin America and the use of data and artificial intelligence in governmental decision-making.

Teaching is grounded in an active learning approach and draws on Paulo Freire’s work on student and citizen empowerment. Classes use games and role-playing to incentivise learning.

Currently serves as Chair of the International Political Science Association’s (IPSA) Research Committee on Politics and Business (RC38). Co-founder of the North East Data Network in the United Kingdom. Associate at CITY-REDI (University of Birmingham) and Visiting Fellow at Newcastle University, where serves as an Open Research Champion.
