In this study, he investigates the role of civil society organisations in shaping social science in contemporary Indonesia, comparing it with its contribution in creating critical social knowledge during Suharto’s Orde Baru. Methodologically, this research employs four case studies, LP3ES, CSIS and Freedom Institute in Jakarta and INSIST in Yogyakarta, in addition to semi-structured interviews with key donor institutions.
