If you have obtained or will obtain a diploma or degree certificate from a Dutch educational institution, please follow the steps below to apply for this programme.

Application process

  • 1. Check the deadlines

The application deadline for applicants with Dutch prior education is 1 May.

  • 2. Check entry requirements

    Prior education

    VWO Diploma

All students who have obtained a VWO diploma from a Dutch secondary educational institution are eligible for the Bachelor's in Archaeology.

    HBO First Year Degree

Students who have completed the first year or first phase of a degree programme at a HBO institution are eligible for the Bachelor's in Archaeology.

Please be aware that many students find the move from a HBO to a university degree programme to be a challenging transition. If you are currently enrolled in an HBO degree programme, you may opt to complete the programme before transitioning to a university Bachelor's programme. Depending on the completed HBO degree programme, you may receive an exemption for certain parts of the Bachelor's programme. If you obtained your HBO degree no more than six years ago, you can apply for an exemption in the elective space for 30 credits.

Please note that if you have already completed a Bachelor’s in the Netherlands, the higher institutional tuition fees apply.

    Colloquium doctum

A colloquium doctum is a special admission procedure for people who are not eligible for the Bachelor's in Ancient Studies on the basis of their obtained diplomas, and who are aged 21 or older.

    English language requirements

All students must be able to read textbooks, understand lectures, take part in classroom discussions and write papers in English. It is therefore essential that students have a good command of the English language, which must be supported by a sufficient score on an English language test or one of the exempted diplomas, such as the VWO diploma or a HBO propedeuse.
