Minor

European History

This minor offers students an orientation to the field of modern and contemporary European History. Students of European History gain knowledge of the field of European political history in a global context, including the history of political thought, European imperialism, decolonisation and European integration, by means of an overview of core issues in the political history of modern and contemporary Europe. Students learn to apply the principal historical research methods to topical themes in the field of modern and contemporary European history.

There’s an overlap between European History and many other disciplines. This minor is designed to provide a thorough understanding of topical issues in European political history. It offers students from, for example, Media Studies, (Art) History or language students, as well as students with a Political and Social Sciences background or a Law or Economics background the opportunity to specialise in European history in a global context.

This minor is offered by the Faculty of Humanities. The faculty’s minors consist of 30 ECTS credits and earn you a second qualification that will be listed on the transcript accompanying your degree certificate.
