Application for the Open UvA Courses is open only to students from EU/EEA countries and Switzerland.

Please note that all courses are offered exclusively on campus. The Admissions Office reserves the right to request additional documents, such as a copy of your ID, a transcript or diploma, and proof of residence in the Netherlands for the duration of the course.

These courses are part of the regular Communication Science Bachelor’s programme. Therefore, to maximize your chances of successfully completing the courses, you should possess sufficient English proficiency and an academic background at Bachelor’s level.

The application deadline is two months before the course start date.

After your application has been received, you will receive an email asking you to confirm it. Your confirmation is necessary to start processing your application. You will receive an admission decision within two weeks after we start processing your application.

A course usually comprises 6 or 12 EC credits. One EC credit is equivalent to a study load of 28 hours. That includes attending lectures and tutorials, self-study and preparing for lectures and examinations. At the College of Communication you may take Open UvA Courses comprising a maximum of 24 EC credits per year.

At the end of a course, you can participate in the examination. You are also entitled to one retake. If you have successfully completed the course(s), you can apply for a certificate. Apply for the certificate via educationdesk-cs@uva.nl.

Costs

The cost is €100 per EC credit including exams. Thus, a 6 ECTS course will cost you a total of €600. Literature, travel expenses etc. are not included in the course fee.

The financial administration will send you an invoice for the full amount. Payment in instalments is possible in special cases.

If payment is not made on time, as specified on the invoice, the teacher may refuse you access to the course. We then reserve the right to still claim payment of the due amount.

Cancellation policy

Cancellations can only be made before the start of the course. After the start of the course, it is not possible to reclaim your course fee.

Cancellation must always be in writing. A written cancellation should be sent to: educationdesk-cs@uva.nl. In the absence of a written cancellation, the full course fee will be charged.

In case of cancellation, a €75 administration fee will be charged. Unless the cancellation is done within two weeks from the application date, then no administration fee will be charged.

In exceptional cases, we unfortunately have to cancel participation for contract students in order to give priority to our regular students. In that case, no administration fee will be charged and you will receive full refund of the course fee.
