Since 8 May, the Statistics and Mathematics Advice and Support Hub (SMASH) has opened. Students can visit SMASH when they experience problems with mathematics or statistics, for example when they get stuck in a course or a project that requires mathematics or statistics.

SMASH is a physical drop-in location where student assistants are on hand to guide students. Also, an experienced teacher is always present to take over if the request for help is too complex. The project, funded by NPO funds, will also provide an online environment where exercise materials will be made available to students.

SMASH's support is designed for individual maths and statistics problems. You can compare it to the advice given by student advisers, but in a different area; students receive help and advice, with both theory and the use of software, but will ultimately do the work themselves. The services provided by SMASH cannot replace regular education, such as work lectures or extra support when a larger group of students falls behind.

Do you know a student who needs guidance in maths or statistics and for whom SMASH would be a good solution? If so, feel free to refer students directly.
