Quantum Computer Science (QuCS) is a promising new master's programme at the Faculty of Science. The programme offers a research-based programme with a strong mathematical foundation. QuCS leverages the unique expertise in Quantum computing and Quantum information theory present at the Faculty of Science.
What can students expect? Intended programme director John van de Wetering explains:
The master's degree in Quantum Computer Science will be the first Computer Science programme with a specialisation in Quantum information in the Netherlands. Even worldwide, the master's programme is one of only a small number of programmes in Quantum-related subjects.
This 2-year programme meets the growing social need for more and more experts with knowledge and skills in Quantum technology. The University of Amsterdam is ideally placed to design and develop this programme because of its strong connection to QuSoft, the research hub in Quantum technology.
Why a student chooses Quantum Computer Science at the UvA:
Students who have completed their bachelor's degree in, for example, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics or Astronomy are welcome to start this unique new MSc programme. About 40 students have applied for the Master's in Quantum Computer Science in 2024-2025. Approximately 25 students are expected to actually start the programme in September.
