Bring Your Own Device

All students of the master Bioinformatics and Systems Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Earth Sciences are expected to use their own laptop.
  • Hardware recommendations
    • 4GB of RAM or more
    • HDD or SSD: 128GB, SSD is recommended
    • WiFi: multiband (2.4GHz and 5GHz)
    • Screen: at least 11"
    • Screen resolution: 1366x768 or better, 1920x1080 is recommended
    • Webcam and microphone

    We recommend a Windows operating system. MacOS is also possible, but requires more research and initiative because the support is more limited.

  • Software with discount  

    UvA students can purchase software and various cloud services at a substantial discount through Surfspot. Available products include anti-virus programs, SPSS, Windows 8.1 and Office 365.
