Yasemin Oruc, Amsterdam MBA

'An important reason in deciding which MBA programme to join is the 'personal' factor. I evaluated and visited several MBA programmes at different Business Schools and the ABS stood out due to its personal touch, small class sizes and detailed selection of candidates.

New experiences

I believe in taking every opportunity to learn and gain new experience. I decided to pursue an MBA degree to increase my managerial experience with more academic and theoretical tools and practices.

Amsterdam is my hometown and I moved back here after living abroad for over five years. I am looking forward to continuing my career here. Amsterdam has developed over the past years into a true financial centre playing an important role for the Netherlands, Europe and even the world. Many international companies are opening offices in Amsterdam, contributing to the international image of the city.

Courses

The courses of the MBA are very well chosen and they cover all important aspects. The one-year programme is an intense and dynamic program and after graduation you feel you have increased your knowledge and experience in most of the important subjects that play a role in today’s economy such as: strategy, finance, operations and HR. Furthermore, the elective courses have a strong link to the core courses of the programme.

Fellow students, lecturers and staff

As a full-time MBA student, this has been a great and inspiring cultural journey being the only Dutch student in the 2011-2012 programme. Besides the academic and theoretical knowledge I can truly say I increased my social and cultural skills with the MBA programme as well. The diverse and dynamic profile of the students is what motivates you to take the best out of the different courses and even taken a step further and really linking the courses to daily life by exchanging experiences from cultures all over the world.

The professors have always inspired me because of their great capacity to link academic knowledge to the practical managerial world. The staff has been helpful, and supportive.

I have been truly able to expand my knowledge as well as develop my personal profile. This mainly due to the great dynamic within the group, the balance in the course outline and the tremendous effort the professors have given.

Alumni network

As I have just graduated I am looking forward to contributing to the alumni network and staying in touch with the entire ABS environment. I intend to take my career to the next level by moving into a more managerial role. I hope to translate my obtained academic knowledge within the field of strategy, branding and executive process in practice, preferably within the service industry.'
