The Accounting section combines the focus on the areas of management and financial accounting with research and education into important topics such as data science for accounting and auditing.

Faculty and staff members

The Accounting section is currently home to about 46 ambitious junior (tenure-track) researchers and leading senior academics as well as some lecturers, all contributing to a thriving, inspiring academic community. The section fosters its ties with the academic accounting community and with the accounting profession. Many faculty and staff members are engaged in ancillary activities and several members hold external part- time positions.

Research

The Accounting section of the Amsterdam Business School is a nationally and internationally recognised centre of high quality research and education in a broad range of areas including financial accounting, management accounting and control, auditing, accountability and sustainability, and accounting information systems.

Our researchers are very diverse in terms of background, research interests and methodological approaches but all members share a commitment to producing high quality, innovative research that is relevant to both business and society. Faculty members regularly publish in top tier academic and professional journals, such as Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, The Accounting Review, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Contemporary Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies, Accounting Auditing and Accountability Journal, Accounting and Business Research, European Accounting Review and Management Accounting Research, as well as in journals from adjacent research fields, such as Harvard Business Review, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Management, MIT Sloan Management Review and Strategic Management Journal. Several of our faculty members hold editorial positions at top-tier journals.

Education

The Accounting section is responsible for education in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and Executive programmes and in courses in all areas of accounting and adjacent fields, including:

  • education in one of the largest undergraduate programmes at the University of Amsterdam; the BSc in Economics and Business;
  • its own Master's programme, the MSc in Accountancy and Control;
  • teaching and coordinating the Post-Master 'Registeraccountant'(RA)-programme (the Dutch CPA-qualification);
  • teaching and coordinating the Executive Master of Finance & Control, leading to the Dutch recognised qualification of 'Registercontroller' (RC);
  • supervision of PhD candidates.
