All courses are taught by researchers who are active in the given field. This ensures that you receive an advanced academic level of education; based on the latest developments in limnology, oceanography, and marine biology. 

Research institutes

The Master's programme in Freshwater & Marine Biology  is strongly connected to research topics of the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics of the University of Amsterdam. There is also a close cooperation with institutes outside the University such as the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ).


The Master's programme in Freshwater & Marine Biology  has a student population of 20 - 30 students each year, with many nationalities and backgrounds. Courses are done in small groups and during the Master's projects students participate in regular meetings to present their work and discuss this with their peers. This results in an informal and international classroom.
