The Law faculty's academic staff are highly qualified European and international lawyers who use skill-focused and research-based teaching methods. All staff members are also part of the university's research community and its research institutes.

Amsterdam Centre for European Law and Governance

The Amsterdam Centre for European Law (ACELG) has quickly developed into a research centre of excellence that hosts many events and lectures that go beyond the teaching curriculum. Students are also invited to attend these events, which offer additional stimulus for those seeking to develop an independent and critical approach to their knowledge of European Union Law.

ACELG’s particular strength is that it goes beyond the usual black-letter law approach by including ‘governance’ and ‘law in practice’ – both in its research and in its teaching. This helps prepare students for the rapidly changing professional environment by helping them not only to acquire the relevant knowledge but also develop the necessary skills for success.

Amsterdam Centre of Law and Economics

The quality of the International and European Law programme is enriched by the UvA’s strengths in both law as well as economics and business. The Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Economics and Business formally collaborate through the Amsterdam Centre for Law & Economics (ACLE), which houses over 20 scholars who conduct interdisciplinary research about the intersection/overlap between these fields.
