If your previous education does not fully meet the entry requirements for the Master's in Physics and Astronomy, you may be eligible for a Pre-Master’s programme. This programme prepares you for entry into the Master's.
The Pre-Master's consists of a fixed set of second-year Bachelor’s courses (up to 30 EC). Based on your academic background, the Admissions Board will determine whether you are required to complete the full programme or whether exemptions can be granted for specific courses. For questions about admissibility to the Pre-Master's programme from a specific academic background, please contact the relevant track coordinator (see the contact pages of the track).
You may be able to already take some of these courses as electives if you are currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s programme. To see whether these courses can also count towards your current Bachelor’s degree, please check with your current study adviser.
For questions about the feasibility of completing these courses given your current academic background, either within the Pre-Master’s or as part of your current programme, please contact the study adviser of the Bachelor’s Physics and Astronomy, Mw. drs. Iris Weitjens-Hettelingh.
Courses are taught in both Dutch and English. The Pre-Master's programme must be completed within a maximum of two years and cannot be followed online. After successful completion, you can enrol in a Master’s track of your choice in the following academic year.
To be assessed for the Pre-Master’s programme, you must first apply for the Master’s in Physics and Astronomy via Studielink and subsequently complete your application in Datanose. In your application, please mention your interest in the Pre-Master's programme.
Entry requirements to the Pre-Master’s programme are based on those of the Bachelor’s programme Physics and Astronomy (Natuur- en Sterrenkunde), while the application deadlines follow those of the Master’s programme.
After submitting your application, the Admissions Board will assess your eligibility and determine whether a Pre-Master’s programme is required.
After completing the Pre-Master’s programme, you must reapply for the Master’s in Physics and Astronomy before the relevant application deadline.
