Shortly before the summer, the UvA-wide Policy Framework for External Collaboration was adopted. This framework sets out the principles on which the policy for collaboration and its ethical assessment have been developed. It also defines the roles and responsibilities of all those involved and provides guidance for developing faculty-level policies on collaboration with third parties.

Development of the framework

(Inter)national collaboration is inherent to scientific progress. The UvA also considers an international orientation to be an essential enrichment of education and research. Carefulness is paramount in this regard—not only to prevent the misuse of results and relationships as far as possible, but also to collaborate on the basis of shared values within the framework of academic freedom and responsibility.

Reflecting on existing and new partnerships in the context of academically responsible research, education and knowledge transfer is essential. The policy framework therefore also includes the UvA-wide Assessment Guidelines for External Collaboration, the regulations governing the Advisory Committee on External Collaboration, and this committee’s mandate.
