The UvA sometimes collaborates with other institutions. To determine which corporate identity applies in each situation (that of the UvA, that of a third party, or a possible joint corporate identity), a distinction has been made between four categories.

1. Fully part of the UvA

Faculties, departments, research institutes, chairs and academic departments are all part of the UvA organisation. Although they do not always have a name that can be directly linked to the UvA (for example, the Van ’t Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences, the Institute for Information Law and the Spinoza Chair), they are part of the UvA and must therefore use the UvA corporate identity. The specific name of the sender can be added in the designated space below the UvA logo. The use of separate logos is not permitted.

2. Affiliated organisations

This category covers the companies within UvA Holding and the independent foundations and associations subsidised by the UvA. For these groups, the wordmark alongside the symbol is omitted. Subject to approval by the Executive Board, they may use the symbol supplemented with their own company name. This is reflected, for example, in the logos of the AUV and the AUF.

3. Collaborations with one other party (50/50)

When the UvA enters into a collaboration with one other organisation, three options are available depending on the nature of the collaboration:

  1. Use of the UvA corporate identity
This applies where the UvA is the lead partner, bears a larger share of the costs, or assumes a larger share of the organisational responsibilities.
  2. Use of the partner organisation's corporate identity
This applies where the partner is the lead partner, bears a larger share of the costs, or assumes a larger share of the organisational responsibilities.
  3. Use of a joint corporate identity
A joint corporate identity has a general, neutral character and presents both partners on an equal footing. This option may be used when both partners collaborate on an equal, clearly defined and documented basis, and it must in all cases be approved by the Executive Board. The joint corporate identity must be documented in a style guide. At present there are three joint corporate identities: with the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and, for student recruitment, with the Faculty of Medicine (AMC/UvA) and the Faculty of Dentistry (ACTA/UvA).

4. Participation in a project/ consortium (multiple parties)

When the UvA participates in a project with multiple partners, or in a consortium, the UvA logo is applied within the corporate identity of the project or consortium, which in that case takes precedence. This is the case, for example, for participation in the LERU and U21 networks, or for the “Kennis voor de stad” symposium.
