The University of Amsterdam logo consists of a wordmark (‘Universiteit van Amsterdam’) and a symbol (a black block with three white crosses and a ‘U’). The logo was designed specifically for the UvA and may not be used freely. Only the UvA (and its organisational units) and institutions affiliated with the UvA may use the logo, or elements of it.

UvA brand

The UvA holds the intellectual property rights to both the symbol and the wordmark. Use by third parties requires approval from the UvA Executive Board. To request approval, contact the UvA corporate identity coordinator. The UvA actively enforces against trademark and copyright infringement.

Sponsor brand

The University of Amsterdam is sometimes a sponsor or funder of an event, congress or conference. With the Executive Board’s approval (via the corporate identity coordinator), the UvA logo may in such cases be used as a sponsor brand. Different conditions then apply to how the logo is placed.

In other cases, the UvA organises an event together with other organisations. Where possible, the relevant joint corporate identity is used. If none has been developed, the UvA logo may also be used as a sponsor mark, again subject to approval by the Executive Board (via the corporate identity coordinator).
