The University Diversity Sounding Board (UDSB) is committed to an inclusive and equitable university. This sounding board brings together diverse perspectives to provide innovative advice on policies and initiatives within the UvA. The Central Diversity Office established the UDSB in 2024 to make participation on matters of diversity, inclusion, and equity more transparent and accessible.

The sounding board meets approximately once every six weeks. During these meetings, members discuss important topics relating to diversity, inclusion, and equity on campus, such as:

  • Progress on diversity policy
  • (Physical) accessibility
  • Racism and discrimination in the workplace/classroom
  • Gender-related topics (e.g. gender-inclusive toilets and the menopause)
  • Inclusive use of language
  • Religious diversity
  • Decolonisation

The sounding board is a space where ideas and experiences are shared and where concrete steps are taken to promote an inclusive culture. Members of the sounding board hold various roles within the university, such as representative of an identity network, member of a participation body, lecturer, support staff member, student, or researcher. They all have an affinity with and/or expertise in themes relating to diversity and inclusion.

A number of smaller working groups exist on specific themes. These working groups may issue recommendations. In this way, the sounding board ensures that signals from practice are heard and taken into account in its advice.
