The Alumni Association (AUV) is the general alumni association of the UvA. The AUV aims to strengthen the bond between alumni and the UvA and between alumni themselves. The association has over eight thousand members and many alumni circles, and regularly organises alumni meetings.

Become a member of the AUV

As an AUV member, you will enjoy a variety of benefits and you can join one of the alumni circles.

AUV activities

Besides the circle activities for circle members, there are also several events for all AUV members. During these events, you’ll meet the broad UvA alumni network.

Alumni circles

Through the alumni circles, you stay informed about developments within your field or discover new fields. You can easily meet fellow alumni or former colleagues, as there is also a circle for former UvA employees. The circles are managed by circle directors: enthusiastic volunteers who organise all kinds of activities for 'their' circle members. For example lectures, debates, networking drinks and excursions.

Alumni Talks

Alumni Talks is a series of meetings in which a number of circles together approach a topical theme from different angles and disciplines. The interdisciplinary meetings take place throughout the academic year and are separate from the activities the circles themselves organise for their circle members. These activities can be anything, from lecture to debate and from guided tours to film evenings. Or a combination of several activities.

AUV Young

AUV Young focuses on the young(er) alumni network. The programme offers interactive career training, networking meetings and mentoring programmes. Alumni develop practical career skills and get tools in mapping out their careers. With this programme, alumni easily connect with peers and can share experiences.

Other activities

The AUV and its partners organise various courses aimed at self-knowledge, personal development, effective communication and leadership, among others. Want to know more about our partners? Take a look at the overview, including member benefits.

Board positions within the AUV

The AUV is supported and strengthened by numerous alumni who volunteer their time. The AUV has a general board, a cash committee and circle directors. The circle directors manage the alumni circles. These enthusiastic volunteers organise all kinds of activities for their members. Would you like to stay involved with the UvA, dedicate yourself to your colleagues and gain (further) experience within a board? Then take a look at the vacant board positions within the AUV.

History AUV

The AUV was founded in 1889 after a major fundraising campaign for the construction of the former auditorium in the Oudeman House Gate. The goals of the association at the time were to manage the funds and maintain the connection with alumni. The assets were later transferred to the Amsterdam University Fund, a foundation that helps ensure that the UvA remains an inspiring environment by supporting research, heritage and student facilities. Since then, the AUV has focused on maintaining as well as strengthening the bond with alumni.

  • AUV Board
