The policy framework contains general and specific guidelines for the responsible use of GenAI in education. At the same time, it offers faculties and programmes room to translate the policy into their own educational practice. After all, GenAI requires customization: the impact and proper application differs per discipline.
Programmes are called upon to actively investigate what role GenAI can (start to) play within the curriculum, with a view to the changing labor market in a world with GenAI. They are also encouraged to think about GenAI as a learning objective in itself: students should learn to use GenAI critically and responsibly.
In addition to the policy framework, an addendum to the existing Assessment Policy Framework has been prepared. This addendum provides guidance for dealing with GenAI in assessments. It helps programmes to identify risks and possibilities and to adapt assessment if necessary. The basic principle is and remains that students must achieve demonstrable learning objectives independently.
With this policy framework, we are taking the next step towards responsible integration of AI into our education. We recognize the opportunities of GenAI, but also the risks. This framework helps us carefully navigate between the two.Rector magnificus Peter-Paul Verbeek
