What do the house rules say?
Broadly speaking, the rules are as follows:
General code of conduct
- Respect others and ensure a socially safe environment. The University of Amsterdam’s code of conduct explains how we should treat each other.
- Talk to people who engage in undesirable behaviour.
- Report emergency situations.
Use of buildings
- The buildings and facilities can be used for teaching, research and activities that contribute to this.
- If you are organising an event, make sure you reserve a space for this in good time.
- Occupying, blocking or staying overnight in UvA buildings is not permitted, as we cannot guarantee everyone’s safety in these cases.
If you are organising an event or demonstration, contact the service desk.
Clean, tidy, fire-safe
- Leave buildings and grounds clean and tidy. For example, put your bike in a bike rack and keep escape routes clear.
- Always follow the instructions of building managers and groundskeepers.
- All sites are completely smoke-free.
- Pets should be left at home. Assistance dogs for people with disabilities are, of course, welcome.
Dissemination of information
- There are dedicated noticeboards where students and staff can share information.
- Only the sharing of non-commercial information is permitted.
- Posters that are discriminatory, threatening or incite hatred or violence will be removed.
Proof of identity
- You may be asked for identification, for example to prevent unauthorised use of rooms.
