Since its launch last September, feedback from students and staff about UvA AI Chat has been taken into account. With this feedback UvA AI Chat and supporting materials to promote AI literacy are continuously improved for the context of the UvA. Read about the current developments.

Treflection, deskilling and possibilities

The e-learnings AI literacy for lecturers and AI literacy for students have been fully updated for the next semester. The e-learnings guide students and staff into reflection, deskilling (loss of skills), to align with UvA policy and know 'what is possible' in regards to responsible use of AI. As you work through the online course, you will encounter most recent examples of how to use AI, including tips and guidelines to keep in mind. The content has been specifically designed by the UvA for the UvA, takes little time to complete and shows you how to use AI responsibly.

Additionaly, the e-learning Getting started with UvA AI Chat has been updated. It takes you step by step through all functionalities for you to explore UvA AI Chat at your own pace.

Way faster

The gpt5.1 language model will become the default setting in UvA AI Chat. Combined with improved code and system prompts, this makes UvA AI Chat much faster than before. Compared to previous models, Chat gpt5.1 is more focused on adaptive reasoning, better attuned to the complexity of tasks and faster at simple tasks.

Open-weight language models on local servers

The open-weight reasoning model gpt-oss-120b will be available in UvA AI Chat for students and staff. The language model runs on Dutch servers in Watergraafsmeer in collaboration with SURF. This broadens the choice of language models within the secure environment of UvA AI Chat and makes them accessible to students and staff. In this way, the UvA is contributing to independence from commercial AI tools and Big Tech.

Document handling

Staff found that UvA AI Chat did not always analyse uploaded documents correctly. The system that analyses documents has been revised and improved. You can now upload documents without any problems, and UvA AI Chat will understand them better and faster. Open UvA AI Chat manual to find out how to make smart use of document handling.
