Professor J.B. van Goudoever has been appointed professor of Paediatrics at the University of Amsterdam's Faculty of Medicine (AMC-UvA).

Professor J.B. van Goudoever (1962) has been appointed professor of Paediatrics at the University of Amsterdam's Faculty of Medicine (AMC-UvA). He has also been appointed head of the department of Paediatrics of the AMC-UvA. In addition, he has been appointed medical department head of Pediatrics of the VU university medical center (VUmc). This unique combination will lead to an intensive cooperation between the academic paediatric departments in Amsterdam. Through this cooperation, paediatry will continue to be practiced to its full potential in Amsterdam.

Hans van Goudoever was professor and vice chairman of the Paediatrics department at the Erasmus MC-Sophia children's hospital in Rotterdam. He has been a member of the Research Foundation Flanders' (FWO) Medical Sciences Expert Panel since 2003. Van Goudoever is also a member of the committee of clinical fellows for ZonMW, the Dutch organisation for health care research and innovation.

He has many publications to his name in journals like The Lancet, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), Pediatrics, Journal of Pediatrics, Gastroenterology, and the Guten American Journal of Physiology. He is also a member of the editorial board of several international scientific journals and serves on leading councils in Europe such as the European Society of Pediatric Research and the European Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition - Committee on Nutrition. Van Goudoever has received several international awards for his research into nutrition. He is the founder of the Netherlands Human Milk Bank and was involved in the extension of the age limits with respect to beginning the treatment of premature infants in the Netherlands. His special interest in medical ethics is reflected in his membership of the Paediatrician, Ethics and Law commission.
