Amsterdam archaeologists perform field and material research both in the Netherlands and in the Mediterranean region. Archaeology research can be divided into the following two distinctive themes: 1. Central locations, urbanisation and urban culture; and 2. North-South duality of archaeological landscapes. Specialisations include pottery research, physical anthropological research, zoology, digitalisation and heritage. The research performed by archaeologists forms part of the research priority areas 'Heritage and Identities' and 'Globalisation and Cultural Transformations'.
