For conservation and technical art history

The Conservation and Restoration department of the University of Amsterdam helps maintain high standards for the preservation and conservation of cultural heritage. It also contributes to the lifelong learning required by accreditation systems in the field of conservation. The Professional Development programme offers workshops, masterclasses and courses for conservators, conservation scientists and (technical) art historians who want to update their knowledge and skills.

Upcoming courses

Designing your own digital condition report for tablets

30 January 2020. During this pilot workshop, you will learn how to create your own digital condition report for the documentation of artworks. The workshop provides you with an in-depth insight into the various aspects of creating and using digital condition reports.

Workshop Fibre Recognition

10-12 February 2020. This workshop teaches recognition of fibres found in paper, by using the microscope. This knowledge can be implemented in the proper description of a paper’s fibre furnish and may generate insight into the manufacture and the condition of the paper.

Cursus Basischemie (in Dutch)

1 april - 20 mei 2020. Voor wie zijn chemische basiskennis wil opfrissen, of voor wie nooit enig onderwijs op dit gebied genoten heeft, bieden wij deze speciale basiscursus aan. De cursus is samengesteld uit onderdelen van de opleiding Conservering en Restauratie.

The Dutch Method Unfolded: Masterclass on wax-resin linings

29 June - 10 July 2020. A two-week masterclass that will provide knowledge and hands-on experience on wax-resin linings: history, impact on paintings’ condition, and consequences for conservation practice.
