Bjorn Beijnon, PhD, is an educator, researcher, and higher education professional specialising in teaching and learning, assessment, curriculum development, and digital culture. He is currently Manager of the Teaching and Learning Centre at the Faculty of Humanities (TLC FGw) of the University of Amsterdam (UvA), where he supports programmes, lecturers, and programme directors in strengthening education, assessment, teacher professional development, and educational innovation.
🎓 In his work at TLC FGw, Bjorn focuses on connecting educational policy with everyday teaching practice. He works on themes such as curriculum development, assessment quality, thesis supervision and assessment, teacher development, and the sustainable organisation of educational support within the faculty.
📚 Bjorn’s academic background is in media and culture studies, with a focus on digital platforms, surveillance cultures, and the societal power of Big Tech. He received his PhD from the University of Amsterdam with the dissertation Data Subjects of Big Tech: The Cultural Logic of Contemporary Surveillance Cultures.
🔍 Alongside his work at the UvA, Bjorn taught at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, where he was involved in the BA Creative Business and the MA Sustainable Business Transition. Beside teaching in both programmes as a lecturer, his roles there included Didactics & Assessment Lead, Chair of the Curriculum Committee, Chair of the Teaching Expert Group, and Graduation Coordinator of the MA Sustainable Business Transition.
