Hi, my name is Steve Pickering and I am a lecturer for the Bachelor Computational Social Science. Like you will be, I'm a newcomer to the University of Amsterdam. I have never come across a degree programme like this. There is a reason my family and I moved to a different country: it's for this degree.

I cannot begin to describe how excited I am to be involved in this degree, right from the very first year. No other institution has been so innovative as to teach its students genuine social science at the same time as teaching them the latest programming languages. You've never programmed a computer in your life? Don't worry: you will by the time we've finished with you! (Yes, you can. Really. That means YOU!)

The combination of Social Sciences and Humanities, Change-Making Experience, Digital Expertise and Research Expertise will equip you with so many new skills and will give you hugely valuable transferable skills for the job-market which few other students will have.

Plus we're going to have some fun with this. Learning works best when you are enjoying what you are doing. You will get a lot of attention on this degree programme from an array of experts in their field. But we'll also give you the freedom to work on projects that you have a passion in. And if you haven't found that passion yet? Don't worry: we have a few ideas!
