Digital Investigations (Media Studies)
The Master's in Digital Investigations trains you in contemporary methods and techniques for public-interest investigations. These skills are essential across fields including investigative journalism, human rights advocacy, public policy, the technology sector, and academic research. You will learn how to analyse and verify digital information at a time when the sheer volume of digital material, disinformation and synthetic media makes establishing reliable knowledge increasingly challenging. This practical training is combined with critical reflection on how evidence is produced, how truth claims are constructed, and how trust is established in digital environments.

Is Digital Investigations right for you?
- You are interested in the challenges of (dis)information, passionate about questions of accountability, transparency and justice, and want to understand the role of digital technologies in contemporary global affairs.
- You want to learn established and experimental digital investigation methods. Previous experience or technical competencies are not required.
- You want to read and engage with academic literature and debates about evidence production and post-truth dynamics. As a humanities programme, we ask you to reflect on the conceptual foundations of investigative work and its ethical, political and societal implications.
- You are self-motivated, can work independently and want your research to contribute to public-interest or advocacy work.
Degree certificate
Digital Investigations is a programme of the accredited Master's programme Media Studies. After successful completion of this programme, you will receive a legally accredited Masterâs degree in Media Studies and the title Master of Arts (MA).
