An education in the social sciences will impart a broad range of skills that easily translates into a multitude of careers.

Where do our graduates work?

The European Politics and External Relations programme prepares you for a career in (European) policy making, diplomacy, work with a non-governmental organisation (NGO), consultancies, and businesses, as well as academia.

In the past, our students have developed careers with

  • government ministries (in the Netherlands and other European countries)
  • European institutions (such as the European Commission  and the Frontex border control agency)
  • international organisations (such as the OECD)
  • think tanks (such as Clingendael and the Hague Institute for Strategic Studies)
  • consultancies (like &Maes)
  • as well as obtaining PhD positions (at the UvA, the European University Institute, Central European University, among others).

Your diploma is not a farewell

After graduating, you don't have to say goodbye to the University of Amsterdam! We are happy to help you develop your career. You can join the young alumni programme, which will assist you in mapping out your career. And as an alumnus, you can also still use the Student Careers Centre.

UvA Student Careers Centre

The Student Careers Centre is there to help with your career development. You can contact them to discuss your options, ambitions and doubts at any time during your studies.
