Track-specific requirements

On this page you will find an explanation for each track-specific requirement, an answer to the question as to which previous education you satisfy, and which subjects you can take if you do not yet meet this requirement.

In order to apply for the Master's track Consultancy & Organisational Development, you should meet the following track-specific requirements in addition to the basic requirements:

  • ≥4ec Knowledge of Personnel psychology on bachelor-2 or -3 level
  • ≥4ec Knowledge of leadership, organizational culture and organizational structure on bachelor -2 or -3 level
  • ≥4 EC Work motivation and occupational health psychology, on bachelor -2 or -3 level
  • ≥4 EC Intra- and intergroup processes (e.g., group dynamics) on bachelor -2 or -3 level

The levels refer to UvA bachelor years:

  • Level 1: comparable to UvA bachelor year 1, basic, introductory courses in the field.
  • Level 2: comparable to UvA bachelor year 2, comprehensive, intermediate courses.
  • Level 3: comparable to UvA bachelor year 3, advanced, more specialized courses.

Level 3 of the UvA bachelor refers to level 6 of the European Qualifications Framework

  • ≥4ec Knowledge of Personnel psychology on bachelor-2 or -3 level

    Students should have advanced knowledge (level 2/3: comparable to UvA bachelor year 2/3, advanced, more specialised courses) of the field of personnel psychology, covering job analysis, recruitment, personnel selection, training, and work performance.

    With which pre-education do you fulfil this track-specific requirement?

    If you have successfully completed, or will complete one of the bachelor’s programmes stated below before 31 August, you will meet this track-specific requirement:

    • UvA Bachelor in Psychology with specialisation Work & Organizational psychology
    • The “UvA Kwalificatieprogramma” within the bachelor of Applied Psychology at Hogeschool van Amsterdam with specialisation Work & Organizational Psychology
    • UvA Bachelor Interdisciplinary Social Sciences with a minor in Work & Organizational Psychology

    If you have a different previous education, please show in your application how you meet this requirement. You can do this by referring to one or more courses that you have obtained in the area of this requirement and by enclosing the course catalogue description of these courses with your application.

    What if you do not meet this requirement?

    If you do not meet this requirement with your prior education, you can take the following course at the UvA:

  • ≥4ec Knowledge of leadership, organizational culture and organizational structure on bachelor -2 or -3 level

    Students should have advanced knowledge (level 2/3: comparable to UvA bachelor year 2/3, advanced, more specialised courses) about leadership in organizations and how their personality, needs, values and leadership style impact the way they interact with followers and other stakeholders of an organizations, which at the same time provides a model for the behaviour of those followers and other stakeholders. Students should also have advanced knowledge about how an organizational culture and structure determines the way in which people in an organization interact with each other and with the ‘outside world’, and influences the actions as well as the well-being of the employees of an organization.

    With which pre-education do you fulfil this track-specific requirement?

    If you have successfully completed, or will complete one of the bachelor’s programmes stated below before 31 August, you will meet this track-specific requirement:

    • UvA Bachelor in Psychology with specialisation Work & Organizational psychology*
    • The “UvA Kwalificatieprogramma” within the bachelor of Applied Psychology at Hogeschool van Amsterdam with specialisation Work & Organizational psychology
    • UvA Bachelor Interdisciplinary Social Sciences with a minor in Work & Organizational Psychology

    * Please note: If you have done the UvA Bachelor in Psychology in 19-20 or before, you can fulfil this requirement with the course Leadership (6 EC), if you obtain the course in 20-21 you fulfil this requirement with the course Leadership and Organizational Culture (9).

    Students should have advanced knowledge (level 2/3: comparable to UvA bachelor year 2/3, advanced, more specialised courses) about work motivation and occupational health psychology, specifically self-determination theory, goal setting, rewards, job characteristics, job demands, job resources and stress.

    With which pre-education do you fulfil this track-specific requirement?

    If you have successfully completed, or will complete one of the bachelor’s programmes stated below before 31 August, you will meet this track-specific requirement:

    • UvA Bachelor in Psychology with specialisation Work & Organizational Psychology *
    • The “UvA Kwalificatieprogramma” within the bachelor of Applied Psychology at Hogeschool van Amsterdam with specialisation Work & Organizational psychology
    • UvA Bachelor Interdisciplinary Social Sciences with a minor in Work & Organizational Psychology

    * Please note: If you have done the UvA Bachelor in Psychology in 19-20 or before, you can fulfil this requirement with the course Work, Stress and Health (9 EC), if you obtain the course in 20-21 you fulfil this requirement with the course Work, Motivation and Health (9 EC).

    If you apply for the track starting in September 2021 a transitional arrangement applies: you can fulfil this requirement with:
    ≥ 4 EC Work motivation and occupational health psychology, specifically self-determination theory, goal setting, rewards, job characteristics, job demands, job resources, and stress (comparable to Work, Motivation and Health) on bachelor -2 or -3 level
    or
    ≥ 4 EC Occupational health psychology, specifically job characteristics, job demands, job resources, stress, engagement, occupational health (comparable to Work, Stress and Health) on bachelor -2 or -3 level

You can do this by referring to one or more courses that you have obtained in the area of this requirement and by enclosing the course catalogue description of these courses with your application.

    If you do not meet this requirement with your prior education, you can take the following course at the UvA:

  • ≥4 EC Intra- and intergroup processes (e.g., group dynamics) on bachelor -2 or -3 level

    Students should have advanced knowledge (level 2/3: comparable to UvA bachelor year 2/3, advanced, more specialised courses) about the theoretical frameworks on team processes and functioning, specifically insight into the dynamics of teams in organizations, for example about how different team inputs can influence team processes and finally team performance and which and how contextual factors can influence this.

    With which pre-education do you fulfil this track-specific requirement?

    If you have successfully completed, or will complete one of the bachelor’s programmes stated below before 31 August, you will meet this track-specific requirement:

    • UvA Bachelor in Psychology with specialisation Work & Organizational Psychology *
    • The “UvA Kwalificatieprogramma” within the bachelor of Applied Psychology at Hogeschool van Amsterdam with specialisation Work & Organizational Psychology
    • UvA Bachelor Interdisciplinary Social Sciences with a minor in Work & Organizational Psychology

    * Please note: If you have done the UvA Bachelor in Psychology in 19-20 or before, you can fulfil this requirement with the course Motivation & Work Behaviour (9 EC), if you obtain the course in 20-21 you fulfil this requirement with the course Teams in Organizations (6 EC).

    If you apply for the track starting in September 2021 a transitional arrangement applies: you can fulfil this requirement with:
     ≥ 4 EC Intra- and intergroup processes (e.g., group dynamics) (comparable to Teams in Organizations) on bachelor -2 or -3 level
    or
    ≥ 4 EC Work motivation (e.g., goal setting, self-determination theory, justice, rewards, job design, job satisfaction) and work behaviour (e.g., job performance, productive and counterproductive work behaviour) (comparable to Motivation & Work Behaviour) on bachelor -2 or -3 level

You can do this by referring to one or more courses that you have obtained in the area of this requirement and by enclosing the course catalogue description of these courses with your application.

    What if you do not meet this track-specific requirement?

    If you do not meet this requirement with your prior education, you can take the following course at the UvA:

  • Statement of Motivation

    In addition to the academic requirements, the selection committee assesses the relevance and quality of your motivation statement. Applications may get rejected if the motivation does not sufficiently match the content of the programme. The motivation statement consists of answers to specific questions regarding the programme.

    In MyInfo, our online application system, you will be asked to upload certain documents, including your academic transcripts, grading scheme, copies of your academic diplomas, cv, copy of your passport, English language proficiency test score and course descriptions from the course catalogue provided by your university. 

  • Proof of Qualification

    In order to demonstrate your knowledge of the basic and track-specific requirements, you need to fill out and upload your proofs of qualification (PoQ) for both the basic and the track-specific requirements. Refer to section 2: Entry requirements and list your corresponding courses in the PoQ templates.
