After this minor you are able to understand and evaluate theoretical knowledge and current developments in the product and labour markets. This will give you an advantage when seeking employment in the public sector, in private corporations, NGOs and international organisations.

Study programme

This minor consists of 30 EC spread over 2 semesters. There are 4 compulsory courses which cover a wide range of topics in microeconomics (24 EC). This is supplemented with 1 restricted-choice elective that gives you the possibility to gain more knowledge of a particular subject (6 EC).

Entry requirements

• You can apply for this minor if you are a Bachelor’s student and have obtained at least 60 ECTS at the time of application. The minor is also open to students from higher professional education (HBO).
• Students from the UvA Bachelor's programme in Business Administration obtain an exemption for the course “Principles of Economics” . These students have to take one additional course from among the above list of restrictive-choice electives in order to ensure that their Minor-programme consists of 30 EC.
• Students from the UvA Bachelor's programme in Business Analytics obtain an exemption for the course “Mathematics 1 for Economics” . These students have to take one additional course from among the above list of restrictive-choice electives in order to ensure that their Minor-programme consists of 30 EC.
• This minor is not open for other UvA Economics and Business Bachelor’s programmes.

• a signed and stamped extract of your study results (for non-UvA students).

Required prior knowledge

• No prior knowledge in the field of economics is required.
• Students are expected to possess sufficient quantitative skills.
• No prior knowledge in the field of mathematics is required, but students are strongly advised to prepare well if they have doubts about their mathematical skills.

Applications for this minor for the 2026–2027 academic year closed at 17:00 on 6 May. It is no longer possible to apply. Further information about applications for the 2027–2028 academic year will be made available during 2027.
