Open UvA courses are available in these four programmes within College of Social Sciences (CSW), provided that you have a pre-university diploma and meet any additional requirements.

The complete overview of all courses can be found in the UvA Course Catalogue (Studiegids).

Most courses take place during the day. The exact day and time are mentioned in the description of the course, which can be found in the UvA Schedule (rooster).

Expenses

The costs are €100 per credit (EC), including exams.
Literature, travel expenses, etc. are not included in the course fee.
You will receive a bank transfer for the entire amount from the Financial Department. Payment in instalments is possible in particular cases.

Cancellation policy

It is possible that you won’t be able to participate in the course due to circumstances. The following rules apply to cancellation:

  1. Cancellations can only be made in writing before the start of the course. After the start of the course, restitution is no longer possible.
  2. Cancellation must always take place in writing. Verbal cancellation must always be followed by a written cancellation. In the absence of a written cancellation, the full course fee will be charged.
  3. In case of cancellation, an administration fee of € 50 will be charged.
  4. A written cancellation must be sent by e-mail to: openuva-sw@uva.nl
  5. If the payment term hasn’t been met, the lecturer may refuse you access to the course. In that case the UvA reserves the right to claim the outstanding amount.

Some courses have a maximum number of participants, with regular students being given priority. In exceptional cases, we have to cancel the participation of Open UvA students. In case of cancellation on our part, you will of course receive a refund of your registration fee. In that case, no administration fee will be charged.

Assessment method and redemption of credits (EC’S)

One EC equals 28 hours of study load. This includes attending lectures and tutorials, self-study and preparation for courses and exams. In total, you can take 60 EC’s worth of courses per year. If you are an employee, you can take up to 30 EC’s per year.

Certificate

At the end of a course, you can take an exam. You are also entitled to one resit. When you’ve met all the requirements of the course, you can apply for a certificate. Please apply for the certificate via openuva-sw@uva.nl

Admission

The Open UvA courses of the College of Social and Behavioural Sciences are open to all interested parties. The lectures are part of the regular Bachelor's programme, and therefore your prior knowledge must be comparable to the level of the other students.

Different entry requirements may apply per course. You will receive a confirmation of your admission.

Participation/ audience

Participation in a course includes participation in the working groups/discussions. Audience members are not allowed.

Registration

You can register via the link below (Open UvA courses).

After processing your application, you’ll receive a payment request. After we have received the payment, we’ll finalize your registration and you’ll be granted access to the digital learning environment Canvas.

Registration preferably takes place one month before the regular course registration dates. This means before mid-May (if you want to take courses in semester 1) or before mid-November (if you want to take courses in semester 2). Here you’ll find more information about the regular course registration dates.
