Program

Digital innovations are transforming healthcare. But how do you determine which solutions truly add value? In this course, you will learn to critically assess, select, implement, and evaluate digital health applications. You will develop practical skills in:

  • Technology assessment and economic evaluation
  • Risk analysis and ethical decision-making
  • Developing a business case
  • Implementation and change processes

With these tools, you will be able to effectively apply digital innovations within your own healthcare organization.

Course details
This course is offered entirely through e-learning. The study programme provides clear weekly deadlines to complete the course within 8 weeks, but you also have the option to progress at your own pace, either faster or slower. In addition, you will work on assignments both individually and in groups with fixed deadlines.

Assessment consists of a written assignment and a subsequent oral defense. Course materials and assignments can be followed in either Dutch or English. Most of the literature is in English.

What will participants learn?

  • Assess the clinical value of a digital innovation using the principles of Health Technology Assessment (HTA).
  • Analyze and evaluate the potential clinical, technical, organizational, and ethical risks associated with digital innovations.
  • Conduct a basic economic evaluation and interpret cost-effectiveness in the context of healthcare decision-making.
  • Develop a structured business case for the implementation of a digital innovation.
  • Create a comprehensive requirements specification covering functional, technical, legal, and organizational aspects.
  • Evaluate usability using formative and/or summative assessment methods.
  • Assess information security and privacy aspects of digital innovations.
  • Apply principles of project management, stakeholder analysis, and risk management in digital innovation projects.
  • Design and support implementation and change management strategies to promote adoption and use.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of a digital innovation on clinical, organizational, and user-centered outcomes.
