In his lecture, he will outline the book’s central arguments and reflect on their significance for understanding our current, turbulent moment, followed by comments from invited discussants. 

Discussants are Prof. Dr. Carool Kersten, who is Research Professor in Islamic Studies at the Catholic University Leuven and Dr. Gulnaz Sibgatullina, who is Assistant Professor for Illiberal Regimes in the Department of History, European Studies, and Religious Studies. The Moderator is Drs. Nuri Kurnaz, who is a PhD researcher in European Studies.

This event is organised by the Amsterdam School for Regional, Transnational and European Studies (ARTES) and forms part of the event series connected to the project: Colonial exceptionalism or co-imperialism?, led by Dr. Robin de Bruin and PhD researcher Nuri Kurnaz. The event is funded by ARTES research cluster Power and Governance.

About the author:

Faisal Devji is Beit Professor of Global and Imperial History at the University of Oxford. His internationally recognised scholarship focuses on the intellectual history and political thought of modern South Asia as well as on the emergence of Islam as a global historical category.
