Laura Burgers (ACT) has been awarded a Rubicon by NWO. This grant will enable her to spend two years doing research at the Asia-Pacific Centre for Environmental Law at the National University of Singapore. The Rubicon programme is intended to give young, promising scientists the opportunity to gain international research experience.

Laura Burgers is going to research climate change litigation. Environmental activists worldwide are appealing to the rights of people abroad, future generations and nature. This raises the question of how courts should decide in such cases, and whether they can learn from each other - after all, they are all confronted with the global problem of climate change.

Climate justice cases from the global south have hardly been studied, while this region is the most affected by climate change. That is why Laura focuses on this region.
