The decoration was presented to Ronald Does by Jeroen Verwoort, the deputy mayor of the municipality of Velsen, during a ceremony marking his emeritus status as a professor of Industrial Statistics.
Ronald Does conducts research in the areas of statistical process control, Lean Six Sigma, operational excellence and healthcare engineering. Improving efficiency and reducing errors in processes are recurring themes in his work over a long and distinguished career. Does has won a number of professional awards such as the Lancaster Medal, the Shewart Medal and the European Box Medal. He is the author and co-author of numerous peer-reviewed articles and books. Does received his doctorate in 1982 and commenced working as a senior consultant with Philips Electronics. He returned to academia in 1994 as the Managing Director of the Institute for Business and Industrial Statistics (IBIS UvA). This institute not only offers programmes in this field, it also forges important links with business and society.
The Order of the Netherlands Lion is one of the oldest and highest civil honours in the Netherlands. King Willem I established the Order on 29 September 1815. Candidates who have made an exceptional contribution for society are eligible for this honour.
