This series introduces us to a different employee every week. Find out what they most enjoy about their job and learn things you might not know about them yet. This week: Steffi Huber, Assistant Professor in Economics at de Amsterdam School of Economics.

What do you like most about your job?

The opportunity to ask and investigate research questions that I find interesting and policy relevant. Also, the opportunity to choose who I want to work with - this feels like a real luxury.

What project from the past year are you most proud of?

I do not like the word ‘proud’, but I can say that I am very excited about a new project I started working on last year. This project investigates the underlying reasons for the observed changes in labour supply pre- and post-pandemic. Also, I am very excited about a new project that seeks to quantify societies’ susceptibility to fake news. The project’s goal is to test the effectiveness of a policy intervention aiming to increase awareness and reduce, therefore, misinformation.

What don’t most colleagues know about you?

I don’t think many colleagues know that I love doing artwork using shells. I have collected at least 20kg(!) of beautiful shells on walks along the shores of various beaches close by Amsterdam during wintertime. These long walks are even fun when it is stormy and rainy :-).
