The Programme

8 june | Day 1
  • Session 1: The Psychology behind diversity politics

In this first session, Prof. Agneta Fischer will explain and discuss psychological theories on biases. She will take you to the literature on the origin of cognitive biases, how they are an integral part of our cognitive functioning, what implicit biases are, why some people may be more biased than others, the relation between bias and prejudice, and what factors reduce biased thinking. She will use different examples, such as sexism, racism, but also more subtle forms of biases.

    Prof. Agneta Fischer

Agneta Fischer, Professor of Emotion and Affective Processes UvA.

  • Session 2: Phases of Inclusion - What to Do When

In this lecture, you’ll be introduced to the Phases of Inclusion: a practical framework that helps organizations move from good intentions on diversity to concrete, sustainable inclusion. You’ll learn how inclusion develops in phases, what each phase requires, and how leaders, teams, and the organization as a whole can take ownership at every step. That understanding creates a crucial insight: inclusion never happens in isolation. Progress requires teaming up across roles, consciously engaging the right stakeholders at the right moment, and knowing what to ask, expect, and activate in each phase. In the second part of this session, we will therefore focus on the engagement of employees and leadership, exploring how to mobilize people, build shared ownership, and intentionally involve stakeholders so inclusion becomes a lived practice rather than a standalone initiative.

    Edward Boeijenga

Edward Boeijenga is a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) expert with a specialization in Employee Resource Group (ERG) management. With extensive experience in training, coaching, and consulting ERGs and the leaders who support them, he helps organizations unlock the full potential of these employee-led communities.

  • Session 3: Psychological Safety and Social Safety

Diversity initiatives stall when the environment isn’t safe enough to sustain them. Research shows that without psychological safety, the potential of diversity remains unrealised, diverse perspectives go unheard, and inclusion stays on paper.
In this 90-minute session, we bring together the evidence and the practice. We move through the key frameworks, Edmondson, Timothy Clark, and Elmira Nijhuis to understand what psychological safety is, how it connects to D&I, and where organisations typically get stuck. You gain insight into how to diagnose where safety breaks down and what it takes to build the foundation that makes inclusion last.
You leave with frameworks, insights, and a clear sense of where to start.

    Ignatia Mannoe

Ignatia Mannoe is an expert in diversity, inclusion and psychological safety specialising in organisational culture change. At Eneco, she served as the company’s first DEI Manager, developing an integrated strategy that supported leaders and teams in building more inclusive workplaces. Her work is grounded in behavioural science and systems thinking, and she designs interventions, including serious games that make invisible dynamics visible and actionable.

  • Session 4: Data driven DEI

Drawing on evidence rather than assumptions, this lecture explores how data can be used to shape, monitor and strengthen diversity, equity and inclusion strategies. It examines which DEI metrics truly matter, how quantitative and qualitative data can be combined, and how organisations can move beyond compliance towards real impact. Key challenges such as data quality, privacy, interpretation and organisational resistance are critically discussed. Participants gain practical insights into applying data-driven DEI to support accountability, informed decision-making and sustainable change.

June 9 | Day 2
  • Session 1: ERGs, LBGTQ+ Multicultural - challenges, laws, data, research, best practices, Q&A

This lecture explores the role of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) within organisational diversity and inclusion strategies, with a focus on LGBTQ+ and multicultural inclusion. It outlines relevant legal frameworks and highlights international best practices for designing and supporting effective ERGs. Key challenges, including governance, impact and inclusion across differences, are critically examined. Participants gain practical insights into how ERGs can drive sustainable and inclusive organisational change.

  • Session 2: Gender / Age - challenges, laws, data, research, best practices, Q&A

We will examine gender equality and generational dynamics in organisations, with a focus on the rise of Gen Z in the workplace. We will explore how gender and generation intersect, shaping expectations around leadership, careers, wellbeing and inclusion. Key challenges, such as pay gaps, representation, flexible work and intergenerational tensions, are examined through research and practice based examples. You will gain practical insights into building inclusive strategies that support gender equity and effective multigenerational collaboration.

  • Session 3: Disability / Neurodiversity- challenges, laws, data, research, best practices, Q&A

This lecture explores neurodiversity and disability through data, research and lived experience. It clarifies what neurodiversity and both visible and invisible disabilities are, and highlights the scale and relevance of this often underrepresented group in the workforce.
The session examines the role of employers in creating an inclusive workplace, covering practical aspects such as policies, workplace adjustments, psychological safety, communication and relevant legislation. It also addresses what effective inclusion looks like in practice, combining research insights with real world examples and concrete tools.
The lecture concludes with an interactive Q and A, offering space for reflection and application. The speaker integrates personal lived experience with a physical disability to bring the insights to life.
