We wish to warmly congratulate two of ACES’ affiliates Dimitris Bouris and Zamira Xhaferri who were both successful in being awarded a Jean Monnet Erasmus Plus grant.

Dimitris Bouris – Jean Monnet Chair

Dimitris Bouris has been awarded a Jean Monnet Chair focusing on “The EU as a Global Actor”. The Chair is called ATHENA, inspired by the Greek Goddess of war and wisdom. ATHENA will pursue three objectives:

  1. To strengthen and promote excellence in teaching and research on the EU’s role as a Global Actor. The Chair introduces innovations in new learning technologies and learning outputs. It will also focus on professionalization and transferability of students’ skills.
  2. To foster, expand and consolidate a broader community of scholars, stakeholders and policy-makers and generate knowledge and insights that will assist EU policy-making.
  3. To bring the EU closer to the Dutch and European public and youth. The Chair will promote active involvement of youth, students and leaders in the academic, policy and public debate.

The team of the Chair also includes two of ACES’ affiliates, Beste Isleyen and Olga Burlyuk. They will work together to further promote excellence in teaching and research on the EU’s role as a Global Actor in our Department, Faculty, University and beyond!

Zamira Xhaferri – Jean Monnet Module

ACES affiliate Zamira Xhaferri has been successful in being awarded a Jean Monnet Module on ‘Enlargement and External Relations of the European Union.’ (ENLARGU). This module will form a new teaching module on the on the ongoing process of EU Enlargement, offered to BA and MA students of the Department of European Studies at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Amsterdam.
