You will have a thorough understanding of the complexities of the financial markets and international business by the time you complete the programme. Our Executive MSc in International Finance programme is always up-to-date; covering corporate finance, banking and quantitative finance, asset management, new paradigms in the finance industry, and IT in finance, among other subjects.
The Executive MSc in International Finance gives you the skills you need to thrive in global finance. This, in addition to our practice-based teaching and over 20 years' experience, makes our MIF programme the best foundation for becoming a leader in finance.
The academic year starts in the last week of August and ends around mid-June. All courses are conducted in English and take place on weekday evenings – Monday to Thursday. The year is divided into 2 semesters; each semester consists of 2 main blocks. For each of these blocks, you take six weeks of classes, followed by 1 study week and 1 exam week. To finish the programme, you complete a master thesis project and possibly an internship. In January, you go on a 1-week international study trip.
You learn about theory and practice of modern financing, the concepts of risk and ethics in international finance, international financial regulation, emerging financial markets and the legal side of finance. You choose the General track or the Finance and Technology track. When you successfully complete one of the tracks, you receive a Master of Science (MSc) degree in International Finance from the University of Amsterdam.
During the General track you gain insight into the key areas of finance, allowing you to see across boundaries. You dive into finance from the perspective of banking, asset pricing and quantitative finance, as well as from a corporate finance perspective. In specialised classes such as Behavioural Finance or Fintech you learn to apply your knowledge in a changing financial environment.
The Finance and Technology track gives you a greater understanding of technology's role in the financial sector. By the end of your master's you are able to assess and manage financial risks, using all available data and tools.
The Executive MSc in International Finance allows you to earn your degree in one year if you study full-time. We also offer a two-year, part-time programme for ambitious professionals wishing to pursue an academic title alongside their regular employment. Both programmes start in September every year, and comprise 65 ECs.

The MIF study trip to South Africa is your opportunity to gain real international experience. This trip will expose you to a different dimension of international finance markets. Understanding this emerging market and society in transition is a must if you are interested in investment and business opportunities in other countries.
As a CFA and CAIA partner, the MIF programme meets the highest industry standards. You will be invited to join networking events providing great opportunities for meeting finance professionals from all over the world. You may also benefit from the scholarships CFA and CAIA offer.
The 2020-2021 academic year will start as scheduled in September. If we are once again allowed to offer education to physically take place at the Roeterseiland Campus, we will do this. We will use a step-by-step approach to decide which components we will be able to offer physically on campus, in compliance with government regulations. We expect that at first, these will mainly be small-scale activities organised to promote contact between students and between lecturers and students.
We will provide you as a student – wherever you may reside – with the certainty that you will be able to commence or continue with your study. Therefore, we will in any case offer education and exams online in the 1st semester. In each period, we will evaluate whether the circumstances, in line with the social distancing rules of a 1.5 metre society, allow for meetings of small groups for small-scale lectures at the Roeterseiland Campus. There will be no mandatory attendance for these lectures.
