The UvA Quants Career Event 2023 took place on Friday 10 March at the University of Amsterdam’s Science Park campus. The event was jointly organised by 3 Master’s programmes: Stochastics and Financial Mathematics, Computational Science and Actuarial Science and Mathematical Finance.

The coordinator of this event was the Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics. This year is the first time the event was held live on campus since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Opportunities

A ‘Quant’ is someone who is an expert in analysing and managing quantitative data. The goal of UvA Quants is to give the most ambitious master’s students in the 3 programmes more insight into practical issues in the financial sector. It also provides the students with opportunities to take part in internships and training programmes that might lead to recruitment.

Case studies with industry partners

9 industry partners took part in the career event : ABN AMRO, Deloitte, Flow Traders, IMC Trading, ING, KPMG, Nationale Nederlanden, Ortec Finance and Rabobank. The day was packed with morning and afternoon sessions of Case Studies. Students tackled various topics such as ‘Mitigating risk within global markets’, ‘ Insight into the world of trading’ and ‘The actuarial merger & acquisition’. The master’s students also had the opportunity to have 1-on-1 interviews with the company of their choice. The event concluded with drinks and a chance for the company representatives and students to meet in an informal setting.
