Seventeenth-Century Amsterdam as a Creative City

Today’s Amsterdam is a creative city as it has always been. This course deals with theories of the creative city and will find out why Amsterdam in its cultural zenith of the seventeenth century was so successful as a creative city.

From the theoretical level we will delve into major cultural industries, mostly engaged with the written and spoken word, such as Theatre, Geographical Descriptions of the World, News, and the Printing Industry.
