Students of the Master's programme Cultural and Social Anthropology conduct a full qualitative research project, largely autonomous. In addition, you have worked together with a partner organisation and translated their concerns into a feasible research project. These practical and analytical skills, together with a solid theoretical background, prepare you for a wide range of positions.

Where do our graduates work?

As an Applied Anthropology graduate you can expect to work as:

  • advisor or civil servant at a ministry, municipality, or other governmental institution
  • project manager at a non-profit organisation, company, or in academia
  • independent or PhD researcher or consultancy

Our graduates have, for instances, found positions at the Municipality of Amsterdam, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, VluchtelingenWerk, IKEA, and the Dutch trade unions. Graduates seeking a research career within academia are eligible to pursue a PhD.
