In this two-year research-based Master's programme you are invited to deepen your mathematical knowledge and specialise in a mathematical area of your interest. You can also challenge yourself to study related disciplines such as physics, logic and computational science from a mathematical perspective. With the opportunity to compile a curriculum that is tailored to your personal interests, the world of Mathematics is your oyster. Note: As of February 1, 2023, there will no longer be an opportunity to enrol in February. The last possibility is February 1, 2022.

The study programme 

This two-year programme reflects the versatility of mathematics and focuses on questions from all major branches of advanced modern mathematics, pure as well as applied. It allows you to specialise in the area of your interest, while broadening your knowledge in general. Specifically, you choose one of the four specialisations, each offering a large number of courses. 

Varied blend of UvA and MasterMath courses

Close to one hundred courses, given in the framework of the  MasterMath programme or by UvA-affiliated experts.

 

New specialisation

Discrete Mathematics and Quantum Information, positioned at the interface between mathematics, theoretical computer science and quantum physics.

Double-degree programme

Obtain both master diplomas in Mathematics and Theoretical Physics by removing the overlap between both programmes. 

Partners at a stone's throw distance

UvA Science Park houses logical partners such as CWI and the QuSoft consortium, and - of course - other UvA science institutes. 

After graduation 

Graduates of this Master's programme are well-equipped to pursue successful careers in academia, industry or public service. Mathematicians work in industry, banking, technology, consultancy, service organisations and many other segments of the labour market. Their analytical and problem-solving skills give them a crucial advantage in a many work situations, even those where mathematical knowledge may not seem immediately relevant.
