Tuition fees
As a student in the Netherlands you will pay an annual tuition fee.
Laptop
For the master Medical Informatics it is essential to have access to a pc or laptop. Although a pc is ok, we recommend a laptop because you can use it during contact hours in the AMC.
For education we use the Windows operating system. In principle it would be possible to run most of the required software on macOS (or Linux), but we cannot guarantee software availability and correct operation. Should you choose macOS or Linux, we advise Windows dual boot or a virtual machine (e.g., VirtualBox, Parallels). Only choose Apple/Linux if you are sufficiently self supporting.
Minimum requirements
You do not need an expensive high end computer. Below we list the minimum requirements. In general expensive means better. A faster CPU and more memory may be beneficial when doing large analyses in the data science courses. But also consider the weight and size: a large laptop is unwieldy to carry with you.
- CPU: Intel Core i3 is ok, but i5 (or better) is recommended
- Internal memory (RAM): 4 GB or more
- External memory (SSD or HDD): 128 GB or more, SSD is recommended
- Wi-Fi: multiband (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz)
- Screen diagonal: at least 13"
- Screen resolution: 1366x768 or better, 1920x1080 is recommended
Buy
Of course you are free to choose where you buy your laptop. Here are some suitable models.
Rent
Renting is also possible. There are various rental companies, such as Studiepc.
Living costs
Keep in mind that living in Amsterdam also includes costs such as accommodation, food and public transport.
