The Research Master's programme in Brain and Cognitive Sciences forms a challenging, interdisciplinary and international arena in which highly motivated researchers and students endeavour to understand the brain, its development and its disorders.
The Research Master's programme in Brain and Cognitive Sciences is offered by the Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies (IIS), in close collaboration with the Amsterdam Brain and Cognition Center (ABC).

The study programme
The Research Master's programme aims to train you to become an expert in your specific subfield of the Brain and Cognitive Sciences, with a clear understanding and appreciation of the contribution made by the other subfields. All students complete a core curriculum next to their chosen direction within the Research Master's programme in Brain and Cognitive Sciences. The core curriculum of this programme integrates various perspectives from within the discipline and includes an annual summer school, which focusses on innovative topics in an intensively interdisciplinary setting.

The Research Master's programme in Brain and Cognitive Sciences provides you with the necessary theoretical, intellectual and empirical tools to pursue an academic career (PhD programme) in cognitive and neurosciences or in a related discipline. Besides an academic career, graduates of the Brain and Cognitive Sciences programme also find work in applied research.
Is Brain and Cognitive Sciences for you?
Depending on the domain of choice, you must hold a Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in:
- Behavioural Neuroscience: Bachelor's degree in Psychobiology, Biomedical Science, Biology or equivalent
- Cognitive Neuroscience: Bachelor's degree in Psychobiology, (Cognitive/Biological) Psychology, Cognitive Science or equivalent.
- Cognitive Science: Bachelor's degree in (Cognitive) Psychology, Cognitive Science, Artificial Intelligence, Linguistics, Philosophy of Mind or equivalent.
Applicants with another Bachelor's degree may also be admitted to the Research Master, provided they have an adequate academic background in neuroscience and/or cognitive sciences.
