Awards, prizes, medals and other achievements on an individual basis presented to researchers of the Faculty of Science.
Royal Honour for Peter Schoenmakers
Professor Peter Schoenmakers (Van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences) was named Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion on 28 June 2022. He received this honour for his exceptional achievements in the field of analytical chemistry which earned him international recognition and acclaim. Schoenmakers made a career in industry and science, was one of the founders of the national innovation community COAST and put Amsterdam on the map as an expertise centre in the analytical sciences.
Professor Peter Sloot (Informatics Institute) received the Honorary Medallions for his extraordinary effort on behalf of, and service to, the university. Executive Board president Geert ten Dam presented the award during the annual Medallion Day.
The Royal Netherlands Chemical Society (KNCV) announced that Professor Erik Garnett (Institute of Physics) is the recipient of the KNCV Gold Medal. Garnett receives the award for his groundbreaking, cross-disciplinary research that combines nanomaterials, photochemistry, materials chemistry and nanophotonics.
