Linguistics is taught at all levels. There is a Bachelor’s programme Linguistics, which has a strong emphasis on linguistic diversity, as well as a Bachelor’s programme fully focused on sign languages. Within the English taught Master’s programme General Linguistics, students can specialise in one of the aforementioned angles (language acquisition, language variation, language modeling and language typology) that characterise linguistics at the UvA. Lastly, there is a selective Research Master’s in Linguistics and Communication that prepares students for a PhD.

The linguists who teach at the UvA all conduct research as well. All of them have PhDs and are senior members of the Amsterdam Centre for Language and Communication.
